I found out last night that there are 8 midnight showings of The Dark Knight at Edwards here in Bakersfield. EIGHT!
I have been to my fair share of midnight showings, but never in my life have I seen anything like this. We did the math and we estimated the total number of people to exceed 1,200. Umm. WHAT?? 1,200?? To see the same movie, at the same time. In the words of Joey from Blossom, Whoa.
Now, I'm certainly no expert, but I can't seem to wrap my head around the logistics of this nightmare. I figure, based on past experiences, that they will stagger the entrances to each theatre. Theatre 8 will enter at 10:00, Theatre 9 at 10:20, etc... But where will these people wait until then? And where will all of these cars park? If we assume that 3 people come in each car, that's 400 cars. Add to that the employee's cars and anyone else who will unknowingly make the tragic mistake of going to the Marketplace for anything other than this experience. There will certainly be people at the grocery store, Starbucks, Tahoe Joes, etc...
It's all a little overwhelming, and yet exciting at the same time. It's a habit of mine to write a journal entry about each experience, so I'll transcribe it tomorrow. Yippee. Wish me luck as I head off to wait in a line with 1,199 other people in the 100 degree heat.
Oh, and have I mentioned that I'm slightly insane and a total geek. cuz I am.
