Every year, one of the radio stations I work with throws a free wedding for a lucky couple. There is a big contest to determine the winner, and all the expenses are covered for them. The photographer originally booked for the event had to relocate and wasn't able to shoot the wedding as planned, so they asked me to step in and take the job. It's a pretty sweet deal and my name will be mentioned in the promos. But getting to shoot the wedding is the best part, and I'm stoked.
The wedding is on May 30th, but the couple won't be chosen until May 19th, so I won't even get to meet my couple until then. That feels strange to me. When I shoot someone, I usually like to meet with them a few times, just to get to know them better. I find it helps make them feel comfortable in front of the camera, and helps me get a better idea of what they are looking for from a photographer. But this twist certainly makes things exciting and challenging. The wedding is at the Kern County Museum, and I've never shot there before. So I'll be making a few trips over the next few weeks to check things out. So stoked.
Oh, and check back tomorrow and Sunday. I spent last weekend in Park City/Salt Lake City, Utah and, of course, I have TONS of pictures to post. I'll be editing photos like a mad woman for the next few days, so stay tuned. Yippee.
